Johnny Reid to play Slave Lake benefit at the River Cree
If locals are complaining about “Slave Lake Benefit Overload,” they’re not doing it too loudly. We know a lot of people up there.
Besides, it’s hard to argue with star-studded charity shows like the one happening Wednesday, June 15 at the River Cree Casino. Johnny Reid is one of the headliners – the same Scottish-Canadian country superstar who did a cluster of shows at the Jube last time through and totally could’ve sold out Rexall Place.
Also on the bill will be Alberta’s own George Canyon, he of the real cowboy looks and sensitive songs to make real cowboys cry, and One More Girl, which features, well, one more girl.
It’s all being put together by aboriginal actor Tom Jackson, perhaps best known as the star of North of 60 and perhaps even better known for his tireless work for charitable causes of all sorts, part of why he was made a member of the Order of Canada.
CBC-TV will record the event, which will be broadcast on Thursday, June 16 at 8 p.m. across Alberta. Tickets are $60, available here. Net proceeds will go to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
