Jann Arden, queen of all media, to play Jube on Feb. 27

It has been said that the only antidote to the concentrated sadness of Jann Arden’s music is the devastating wit she displays between songs – which is why at the end of her shows there isn’t a dry eye in the house in more ways than one.

Singer, songwriter, author, TV star and raconteur, Arden brings her mix of melancholy and mirth to the Jubilee Auditorium on Monday, Feb. 27. Tickets are $59.50, $79.50 and $99.50 and go on sale Friday at Ticketmaster here. Expect the show to sell out, with the possibility of a second show added. We could be wrong, but that’s what happened last time.

It’s been a while. Last area appearance was 2009. Well, not that long. It just seems like a while. Arden is touring now behind a new album of cover songs, called Uncover Me 2 – must’ve missed the first one there – with her Ardenifications of everything from Fleewood Mac to the Smiths. No one can sing a torch song like this chick, even songs that don’t know they’re torch songs. Like Que Sera Sera. Or Love Hurts. Yup, they’re on the record.

And no one can crack a joke quite like Jann Arden. Here’s one from 2009: “I actually feel better about myself than when I was 21. I tuck my boobs into my belt, but other than that … “

The tour will also coincide with the paperback release of her memoirs, “Falling Backwards.” On TV, she is a judge on Global’s Canada Sings and will be back next year. On radio, her show “Being Jann” was a hit on CBC – top-rated summer program.

Jann Arden: We dub thee “Canadian Queen of All Media.”
