MUSIC PREVIEW: Lucky Seven

Elle King has just one full-length album to her credit, Love Stuff – but what an album it was. The single Ex’s & Oh’s charted around the world, she was nominated for two Grammy awards, and was one of the most buzzed-about artists in the year of the album’s release – 2015.

King, the daughter of actor Rob Schneider, headlines the fourth annual Seven Music Festival on Saturday – coincidentally, on the seventh of July, the seventh month of the year, at St. Albert’s Mission Hill. Early in 2017, King did release a new single, Wild Love, with more electronic elements, a fairly dramatic diversion from her previous pop work, and word is her new album, which was recorded late last year and is due out sometime this year, will lean much more in that direction. Certainly her fans – who may remember her terrific set at the Interstellar Rodeo in 2015 – will be agog at the festival to see what she has in store for them, and will undoubtedly demand she play her hit song multiple times. It does happen with some artists, so who knows?

Also performing at Seven Fest are Banners, the stage name of Michael Joseph Nelson, hailing from Liverpool. He also had some success in Canada in 2015 with the single Shine A Light, off of the project’s eponymous release, and a number of his songs have been used in television series over the last few years. In late 2017 Nelson released the follow-up album, Empires On Fire.

Also on the bill will be the always popular Delhi 2 Dublin, Altameda, and The Wet Secrets.

Full day passes go for $79, and music starts at 1 pm. BUY

Sheryl Crow – The Californian singer-songwriter shot up the charts in the mid-1990s with a pair of sensational albums that spawned the hits Leaving Las Vegas, All I Wanna Do, Strong Enough, If It Makes You Happy, Everyday Is A Winding Road, and a host of others. Sales of follow-up albums have dwindled over the years, but her releases continue to receive positive reviews, including her 2017 album Be Myself. She’s also working on an album of duets featuring herself and a cadre of amazing talents, such as Joe Walsh, Sting, Willie Nelson, and Vince Gill. No word on a release date, but she’s also hinted that it may be the last full-length she’s party to. Also no word on whether she’ll pull some of the duets out for this tour, but one can hope. Jubilee Auditorium, 8 pm, $92 and up, BUY.
