Metric, July Talk team up for Edmonton spring show

It’s always nice when artists put a little thought on who they’re going to tour with – and it sounds like Metric and July Talk are a perfect match made in Canadian modern rock heaven.

The two bands team up for the Art of Doubt tour, named for Metric’s latest album, in case there was any doubt, as it were, who will be playing last on this “co-headlining” bill. The show comes to Edmonton Sunday, April 21 at the Shaw Conference Centre. Tickets go on sale Dec. 14. The pre-sale starts Dec. 11.

Both Metric and July Talk have cut a huge swath across Canadian radio, the former with a string of hits dating back to 2008 and the breakthrough album Fantasies. Notable songs that include Gold Guns Girls, Youth Without Youth and Breathing Underwater display a move to a more pop mainstream sound, while still maintaining its edge. Nice trick.

July Talk (right, above), with its “beauty and the beast” dueling lead vocals, meanwhile, earned “best alternative album” Juno Awards for both of their albums. They’ve been favourites of the club circuit, and – like Metric once did – are ready to move up to the next level. Their third album is expected to be released ahead of the tour next spring.
