Hear Edmonton songwriter Glenroy’s new song

One day before its release!

Glen Erickson, who works under the stage name “Glenroy,” has been kicking around Edmonton since 2000 in such bands as F&M and The Wheat Pool. His latest song as a solo artist is English Bay, a plaintive tale from his youth about an ill-fated romantic journey:

“The song recounts an actual incident in my life,” says Glenroy, “I was living in Saskatchewan and hopped on a bus to go out to Vancouver to hang out with an older girl at her high school graduation. It didn’t work out. The song is about the young belief that everything works out, and the willingness to grab onto long distance relationships. The last lines of the song are the most important: ‘No one tells the truth, only time is left to prove, all our firsts are lasts, and leaving is nothing new.’ This is the stuff you don’t get when you’re a kid. You learn only one way.”

English Bay will be released on all the streaming services on Friday, Feb. 22.

Glenroy will be playing his new music on March 14 at the Nook, with a band that includes Robb Angus and James Murdoch of the Dungarees.
