Morrissey postpones Edmonton to October

Local reaction was swift to Saturday’s announcement that Morrissey’s April 18 concert in at the Jubilee Auditorium in Edmonton has been postponed to October – “WOW, didn’t see that coming!”

And then sarcastic people felt bad – because this was actually due to a “medical emergency.”

The promoter passed on this note: “Due to a medical emergency stemming from an accident incurred while traveling in Europe, Morrissey will be forced to postpone his performance in Edmonton to October 10th, 2019. Spirits are high and the artist is on the path to a swift recovery. All tickets will be valid for the new date and exchanges will not be necessary. Thank you for your understanding.

“Morrissey looks forward to making his long-awaited return to the city and wishes to deeply thank everyone for their patience. All remaining dates on Morrissey’s tour will resume as planned, commencing in Toronto on Friday, April 26.”

The ornery British tunesmith is almost George Jones-legendary for canceling or postponing shows, for various reasons. Last summer, Morrissey canceled some dates in the UK over a racism row. Long story. There was some grumbling when his Edmonton show was announced.

There seems to have been a rash of cancellations and postponements on the concert scene this year: Fleetwood Mac, Ozzy Osbourne, Mick Jagger – all for medical reasons.
