James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt come together in Edmonton in April

Here’s a show where you’ll want to come early to catch the opening act. The legendary James Taylor is bringing Bonnie Raitt with him on a cross-Canada tour in spring 2020.

They come to Edmonton at Rogers Place on Friday, April 17. Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 6.

Will they perform on stage together, at least for one song? You can bet on it. It wasn’t hard to find a YouTube vid of them (see below), in Feb. 2019 performing You Can Close Your Eyes in a tribute to Taylor’s longtime sound engineer Andy Sottile, who died earlier that month.

On this tour, Taylor will be accompanied by His All-Star Band ahead of his forthcoming album. Every ticket purchased comes with a free copy (either CD or digital).

Taylor will also be releasing a spoken word album – yes, you read right – called Break Shot, with music and reminiscing through a remarkable career that spans decades and 100 million albums sold, when people still bought albums.

Bonnie Raitt, meanwhile, has been at it almost as long as the headliner, and is a blues slidesmith of the highest order – master of both an original soul-rock style that spawned several radio hits, and one of the best slide guitarists in the business. Her voice could melt ice, and she’s a forceful political activist on top of it all (just like James Taylor). Raitt’s latest album is all-original, Dig in Deep, released in 2016.

The Canadian tour starts April 14 in Victoria before moving West for a total of 12 shows, winding up in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 5.
