WHAT’S GOING ON: Here are Some Live Entertainment Listings!

Is it safe to go out and be live entertained again? Who knows?! Make your own decisions. We’re all grown-ups here.

Too bad for the real Jason Kenney that Jason Kenney’s Hot Boy Summer has SOLD OUT its entire run at the Grindstone Theatre Nov. 10-21. I’m sure they could sneak the Premier in to witness the scathing satire which mocks his very own words! The show stars veteran comic actor Donovan Workun as Jason Kenney, and there really isn’t any better local for the role Yes, it’s a musical. Here’s a piece by Liz Nicholls.

Sam Roberts Band has been CANCELLED at the Midway Nov. 17-18. Meanwhile, City and Colour’s double-header at the Jubilee Auditorium Nov. 24-25 still appears to be a go. We hear Dallas Green’s band on the radio all the time, and while good singers are suckers for slow songs, he’s starting to rock out a bit more.

The good folks at Northern Light Theatre are presenting The Great Whorehouse Fire of 1921 – a title that speaks for itself based on true events that happened 100 years ago in Big Valley, Alberta. No charges were ever laid, but there was apparently a lot of speculation amongst the locals. And no, it’s not a musical. It plays Nov. 18-28 at the Varscona Theatre.

The Black Dog Freehouse is always a swell place to go, where some of the top area artists perform free shows every Saturday afternoon – hence the name Freehouse? Coming up Nov. 13 from 4-6 pm is Jay Gilday, a Yellowknife artist who combines his Dene heritage with folk elements from elsewhere.

If you’ve ever wondered about the role the Dutch played in World War 2, a Nov. 12 event at Festival Place should set you straight and extend Remembrance Day by one day. History Storytellers – Liberation of the Netherlands in WWII will be told by the acclaimed authors Ted Barris and David O’Keefe.

Stomp Records – whose name says it all – is celebrating its 26th anniversary of noisy business with a bigass punk rock spectac happening Nov. 13 at the Starlite Room. On the bill will be The Planet Smashers, one of our favourites Raygun Cowboys (below), with The Real Sickies, The Anti-Queens, Doghouse Rose, Fire Next Time, and Preying Saints. Show stars at 5 pm. I’m assuming it’s all ages? Vaccine passports required.
