Last chance to see Ozzy Osbourne in Edmonton

We want to give Ozzy Osbourne the same pass we do when other rock stars announce their farewell: Hey, man, you can change your mind if you want to – you’re always welcome in this town.

In the meantime, we can imagine this will be the last time to see the Elvis of Heavy Metal in Edmonton. New dates on “No More Tours” – did you see what he did there? – include Rogers Place on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. Megadeth will open. Tickets are $49-$250 and go on sale Friday, Nov. 9.

To list the accomplishments of Ozzy will fill books. From all evidence, this British rocker was one of the originators of the mainstream heavy metal movement, in Black Sabbath, and on his own. Many of his songs are classics of the genre, especially his unofficial anthem Crazy Train, to which we can all relate to going off the rails to.

On top of the weight of his music to the tune of 100 million records sold over five decades, fans got to know and love Ozzy personally, as the star of two reality shows about his own life, the latest with his son, Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour. He comes off far more likable than that other rock star reality show star. In fact, it’s obvious that the real Ozzy is nothing like the “Prince of Darkness” he calls himself. He’s a prince. At every one of his shows, Ozzy will be quick to remind his audience, “I love you all!” – which he usually says about 100 times, along with “I can’t fucking hear you!” That may be literally true. He’s 69 years old.

So … farewell … for now? In the fine print of the press release is a note that after this extensive world tour, Ozzy will “continue to perform select shows,” just probably not in this city – so there you have it. The door is open. How about a residency in Las Vegas? No? Never mind. It’s a slippery slope to retirement for a Metal God.
