Interstellar Rodeo 2019 announces star-studded line-up

Son of a bitch, give me a drink! Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats are returning to Edmonton.

The folk hero who fortunately revealed a lot more depth than his 2015 hit Son of a Bitch is one of the headliners for the eighth annual Interstellar Rodeo, happening July 26-28 in Hawrelak Park. These guys have lots of great songs that don’t necessarily involve demanding alcoholic beverages – though at this event, there will be wine pairings.

Also announced at a press conference today was an eclectic variety of acts in almost every genre: Asleep at the Wheel, Lucius, Sheila E. (of Prince fame), Whitehorse, the Rheostatics, K’NAAN, Sharon Van Etten (right), Aloe Blacc and many more, some making their Edmonton debut.

Tickets are $249 for an adult non-transferable weekend pass, and $149 for youth, and go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 29 at 10 am. There is a pre-sale privilege for those who bought passes last year, starting on Thursday, March 28. Kids 12 and under, and adults over 80 are free.

In addition to the headliners, there’s focus this year on more alternative styles of songwriters, featuring some who blend in poetry, dance and theatre – including Saul Williams, known as a “radical linguist.”

Rateliff and The Night Sweats, meanwhile, famous for helping to popularize folk music in the modern age, have released three critically-acclaimed albums since that first rush of fame; the latest is called Tearing at the Seams.
