ANNOUNCES: Walk Off The Earth, The Debaters

If video killed the radio star, then it follows that YouTube made the video star.

The perfect case is Walk Off the Earth – the Burlington, Ontario band that parlayed their hobby of making videos of clever pop covers into fame and fortune and a No. 1 AAA hit (adult album alternative) with Red Hands. They won a Juno award for “Group of the Year” in 2016. Thank you, YouTube!

Walk Off the Earth will perform live in Edmonton on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets are $44.25-$74.25 and go on sale Friday.

Following the death of their fellow band member Mike “Beard Guy” Taylor in December 2018, a statement reads, “With much difficult consideration, the band decided to move forward and use the opportunity to honor and share the extraordinary legacy Mike left behind.”

The Debaters come to Edmonton

Be it resolved: Winter in Canada is the perfect time to mount a tour for one of CBC Radio’s most successful comedy shows. Arguing for this case will be participants in the “Holiday Special” tour of The Debaters coming to the Winspear Centre on Monday, Nov. 25. Tickets go on sale Friday.

Steve Patterson will host the debates, which will feature the Canadian comics Deanne Smith and Graham Chittenden. All three will do stand-up sets in addition to the debate proper.

Since 2006, The Debaters has tackled issues from whether toddlers are better than teenagers (Clinching point: “My three-year-old daughter can make a complete mess of the bathroom in five minutes flat – but she can’t get pregnant.”) to the pros and cons of opera. The topics for the upcoming tour will be announced, and may vary. No two shows are alike.

Arguing against the case that comedy tours in the winter are a good idea is … no one! No better way to spend your time indoors.
